đź’” The Day My Heart Almost Gave Out: A Wake-Up Call for Every Woman Putting Herself Last
I almost had a heart attack.
That sentence still feels surreal to write. But it’s true. I came dangerously close to losing my life — not because of poor choices or recklessness, but because I was so busy taking care of everyone else that I forgot to care for me.
As women, we carry so much. We mother, we nurture, we run households, build businesses, support partners, and hold everyone together when things fall apart. But what happens when we start to fall apart?
For me, it started slowly — a gnawing exhaustion, a tight chest, headaches, and moments of feeling like I just couldn’t breathe. I ignored the signs. I thought it was just stress, just fatigue. But I didn’t realize that stress, when left unchecked, can become deadly.
I was living with PTSD and severe depression. I had pushed every feeling aside to stay strong for everyone around me. I wore a smile when inside I was screaming. I ran on empty day after day, convincing myself I could rest “later.”
But later nearly never came.
One night, my body had enough. My heart raced uncontrollably. I felt dizzy, numb, and like I was slipping away. That terrifying ER visit became my breaking point — and my breakthrough.
That moment changed everything.
Ladies, listen to me carefully: Your life matters. Your health matters. YOU matter.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. You cannot heal others if you are breaking inside. And no one — not your family, your job, or the world — will thank you for sacrificing your health for their comfort.
We glorify strength, but real strength is knowing when to pause. To ask for help. To put yourself first without guilt.
Since that day, I’ve made radical changes. I’ve committed to healing, resting, saying “no,” and letting go of perfection. I’ve leaned into therapy, self-love, plants, peace, and everything that makes me feel alive again.
This isn’t selfish. It’s survival.
To every woman reading this who feels like she’s drowning silently, please hear me: You don’t have to earn rest. You deserve it.
You don’t have to wait for your body to scream before you listen.
You are not alone. And you are worth saving — not just for them, but for you.
Take care of your heart, your mind, and your soul. Your life is precious. Don’t wait for a breakdown to give yourself the love and care you so freely give to others.
With love and understanding,
